The player will show in this paragraph Heading for the Shore Verse I gave up sailing solo...sailing on my ownFelt the call to risk it all.. Started heading… for the shore For the shore Chorus Sailing on a stormy ocean Verse The Lord he says you’ll never find an easy-flowing tide Middle Ride the rolling oceans Verse Felt a new direction guiding me at last A love to keep me steady to the shore End Sailing on the ocean Behind the song It is a pilgrim’s song about travelling across the waters of life. A journey on ‘a stormy ocean’ where we often struggle but are never alone. We give up ‘sailing solo’ and journey with a new ‘sure’ guide. With a new belief in a stronger force greater than ourselves. We start a new journey in the company of this ‘sure-shore’ Guide. The Lord. For others this may the force that sustains them on their journey through life. It is a belief in something bigger and deeper than ourselves. A force that is true, secure and permanent and not false and fleeting. A map or guide to rely on in times of trouble. A compass point of reference in a storm. On the open seas we can find help and inspiration. In the words of the song: ‘sailing on the ocean ….I can touch the shore’. We touch the ‘sure’ in the form of guidance and inspiration while in our boat. We are always ‘heading’ to our destination but in some way never reach it. The final point or port isn’t in fact the real goal. It’s what we learn on the way and what we gain in faith and strength and courage for the next part of the voyage. We are on a journey that passes many peninsulas and we meet many different coastlines on the way. However, we have the comfort of being able to ‘touch’ the surety of a Guiding Spirit as we cross these waters. This song has accompanied me on the twists and turns of my life and is the title of the forthcoming EP ‘Heading for the Shore’ due for release in December 2009. |
