Renaissance Girl
She told me we had changed it wouldn't work And all that remains of her
ooooo Sweet memories of love but
Will it ever be the same again I asked
Cause it didn't seem so it didn't seem so
Dreaming of her everyday I never saw
Someone new was standing at my
Door ..... and it didn't happen fast but
Gradually this new girl found a place within my heart and now I
Love her Now I love her
Here is my Renaissance Girl
My Renaissance girl of love
Here is my Renaissance Girl
Oooh Oooh
You gave me hope when all my hope had gone
Shook off my former blues at
Last .. Sweet harmonies of love
Returned to heal my broken chords
Began to warm my heart and now
I love her now I love her
You are my Renaissance Girl
My Renaissance girl of love
Every morning as I feel your tender touch
Every evening as I count the stars above
I thank them all for giving me this love
You are my Renaissance Girl .. my Renaissance girl of love
You are my Renaissance Girl .. my Renaissance girl of love
You are my Renaissance Girl .. my Renaissance girl of love

Behind the song
Renaissance Girl has a simple message of love and hope. Of how we can find re-birth and renewal of love in a person. Of how from the ashes of a broken relationship we can find healing and new hope in a new one which bring a ‘renaissance’ of love to our hearts. We are reborn emotionally and find healing and new life.
This is the first song I ever wrote. I was seventeen. The melody came in an instant and the lyrics followed pretty quickly. It is one of first songs to be recorded later this year for the forthcoming EP ‘Heading for the Shore’.
This is how I see the song:
First part - Old love fades
‘She told me we had changed it wouldn’t work
And all that now remains are memories of love’
Second part - New love appears slowly but surely
‘And it didn’t happen fast
Gradually this new girl found a place within my heart
‘And now I love her
You are my Renaissance Girl
My Renaissance girl of love’
Final Part - ‘Renaissance love’ blossoms to heal a broken heart and give new life
‘You gave me hope when all my hope had gone
Shook off my former blues
At last … sweet harmonies of love
Returned to heal my broken chords
Began to warm my heart
And now I love her….Now I love her.
You are my Renaissance Girl
My Renaissance Girl of love
In 2007 I went into MediaLab studios in Florence to record a number of songs. A version of ‘Renaissance Girl’ from this time features here. It is sung by a friend of mine Lorenzo and have I chosen this particular recording for the rich tone and expressive interpretation of the voice.
